Lake Charles Louisiana is located on the banks of the Calcasieu River in Southwest Louisiana and borders Lake Charles and Prien Lake. Lake Charles is a major petrochemical refining, gaming center and a port on a deep-water channel to the Gulf of Mexico. The Port of Lake Charles is the 16th largest seaport in the United States, the 4th largest liner service seaport in the U. S. Gulf and a major West Gulf container load center. The Calcasieu Ship Channel provides direct access to the Gulf of Mexico for 34 miles downstream. One of the most unique attractions to explore our beautiful wildlife and marshes of Southwest Louisiana all year round would be the Creole Nature Trail.
Lake Charles is referred to as the Festival Capital of Louisiana and hosts over 100 festivals and carnivals annually. Some of our Southern Spice activities include International Food & Music Festival, Mardi Gras, Contraband Days, Cajun Music & Food Festival, Red, White, Blue & You July 4th Celebration, Southwest Louisiana Christmas Lighting Festival, Black Heritage Festival, Marshland Festival, Veterans Day Parade and much more! Lake Charles has several small museums and other cultural facilities such as The Central School Arts & Humanities Center, The Children's Museum of Lake Charles, The Imperial Calcasieu Museum and The Mardi Gras Museum. The Old City Hall in downtown Lake Charles has been renovated for exhibition space and many moving art exhibits are displayed every year.
 Lake Charles, Louisiana is the proud home to McNeese State University, a public university offering a variety of courses with over 8,000 students. Also located in Lake Charles are Delta School of Business & Technology, LA Institute and Sowela Technical Community College which offer vocational courses.
